| March 9-16, 2005 Beaches Turks and Caicos...After sending many families to this resort, we set out on our own family vacation! Flying out of St. Louis, we had to go through Miami before arriving in Turks around 1pm. What a beautiful flight into these islands, though! The water is truly indescribable. Right away you can see why many avid divers love this destination. The customs and immigration process went smoothly at the airport. They were very good at making sure the children knew who they were and named their parents. Very reassuring! Of course, my youngest, Skylar, couldn't figure out how the lady knew her name! The officer had her birth certificate in hand, asking her what her mommy and daddy's names were. Too funny the expression on Skylar's face! We were met outside the terminal by the Beaches representative and directed to a taxi, as there was only one other family traveling to the resort at that time. The taxi ride takes only about 15 minutes. We were met with huge smiles as we pulled into the resort, and of course everyone was offered a cool, wet towel to refresh our faces. Check in is very simple at any Beaches resort. You are asked to sit in a living room type of area and they bring the necessary forms to you. You will have to fill out your return flight information, along with giving them a credit card for any additional expenses you may occur (such as the gift shop or diving). Amazingly, within 10 minutes we were on our way to our room. We were in a premium category room for 3 nights, then moved to a honeymoon 1 bedroom suite for the remaining 4 nights. Huge Difference...let me tell you! The kids loved having their own TV and sofa bed while Mommy and Daddy were able to enjoy quiet time in our own bedroom, while making a cocktail using the bar in our room. Having a 6 and 3 year old, they were usually ready for bed by 9:30pm. Believe me when I say, it is definitely a huge benefit to have a concierge category room! Another great feature of room 721 was the enormous balcony space. We had a wraparound balcony off the living room area and a totally separate balcony off of the bedroom. There is nothing quite like sitting on the balcony watching the waves crash or reading a book while relaxing in the tropical breeze. Ok, now our thoughts overall. This resort was closed for a few months last year after a hurricane went through the island. The French Village lost a lot of trees, so the vegetation isn't quite as lush as one may expect. Overall we were very satisfied with the resort. The food was good, although the service in Schooner's was incredibly slow. Our best dinner was in Sapadillo's. Make sure to reserve a night for you and your significant other! You will thoroughly enjoy the romantic atmosphere and the wait staff is the best on the entire resort. Jason and I had a feeling they were all from Jamaica, and they confirmed these suspicions. They just know how to have fun and provide excellent service. We ate at each of the restaurants. You will find more on each restaurant below. We found the French Village area the easiest swim area for our children. With Skylar not quite swimming, yet, she felt very comfortable in the shallow areas of the pool here. The pool was still deep enough for Kiersten, Mommy and Daddy to enjoy ourselves, as well. There was one day that the entire pool was closed for cleaning. They try to rotate these so that only 1 pool is affected at a time. Pirate's Island is awesome for the kids, with waterslides, a swim up soda bar, and lots of splashing fun! Bottom line...we loved our week at Beaches Turks and Caicos. The girls had a great time in the kid's club, but really enjoyed being able to spend the afternoon with Mommy and Daddy in the French Quarter pool. They thought it was so cool running into Elmo and Zoe during the day. See more photos of our trip by clicking here. Thanks so much and we look forward to sending your family on vacation very soon!
